This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Entry Requirements

AICSE student selection process has been developed to ensure that students are enrolled in a qualification that best suits their needs. These selection criteria consider a variety of factors when assessing a student’s suitability for undertaking the course. The following will be considered when deciding the suitability for enrolment
  • The student’s needs and desired outcomes as the student indicates in the Pre-Training Review (PTR);
  • The ability and commitment of the student to completing the course
  • Eligibility requirements as outlined in the applicable National Training Package;
  • Student’s existing ability in the ACSF core skills (learning, reading, writing, oral communication and numeracy). The Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment will be completed as part of the PTR process Students not meeting these requirements will be directed to more suitable qualifications. Offshore International students will be required to attend a Skype/Zoom or phone interview as part of the PTR process.

Minimum education standard
Hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care OR CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Age restrictions
Students must be 18 years of age or above.

Students will be advised of further vocational pathways and articulation into concurrent or higher levels of training during the delivery of the course or at the time or pre-training review and enrolment.

If a qualification is only partly achieved, a Statement of Attainment is issued for successful achievement of a single or multiple unit of competency.

Recognition Of Prior Learning

RPL is the assessment process for recognizing competencies gained through previous learning, work, and life experiences. Students who have completed any of the subjects or have practical experience that can be used for RPL, can contact AICSE prior to enrolment. In order to be granted RPL, candidates are required to provide evidence that they are already competent in the specific subject/subjects and these evidences should be valid, authentic, current and sufficient.
